John Nelson.
John was the husband of Elizabeth, - surname not yet confirmed.
[A possible marriage for John would be to Elizabeth Mettcalfe on 15th February 1790 at Kirkby Lonsdale.]
They lived in Weathercote (Weather Cote) which is just north of Chapel le Dale, near Ingleton, Yorkshire.
Their children's baptisms are recorded in the Ingleton Fells parish registers:
James, son of John and Eliz. Nelson, Weather Cote, 3rd June 1792.
Richard, son of John and Eliz. Nelson, Chapel House, 25th May 1794.
Peggy, daughter of John and Elizth. Nelson, Chapel House, 14th August 1796.
George, son of John Nelson, 13th September 1801.
Then, sadly,
"George, son of John Nelson, 24th April 1802, Burial."
Thomas, son of John Nelson, 2nd March 1803.
and then, the final tragedy: Elizabeth seems to have died giving birth to Thomas.
"Betty. wife of John Nelson. 2nd March 1803, Burial."
James Nelson (1792 to 1865).

(This is at Chapel le Dale, close to Ingleton. Weathercote Cave has long been a tourist attraction, even painted by JMW Turner.
In the baptism record for James's siblings, the home is given as Chapel House, Weathercote.
Cottages called Chapel Houses, marked on early maps close to the chapel, still exist.)

Some disaster seems to have befallen the family during the 1860s. John and Elizabeth have moved from the farm by 1871, and are living in Burton in Lonsdale with youngest children, George and Robert.
Low Broomfield is now in the hands of Richard Robinson and family, and I can find no obvious connection between them and the Nelsons.
The older children have all moved on by 1871. James to Liverpool, where he married Sarah Ann Emery, Richard and John to Lancaster (lodging, as joiners at 84 Damaide Street), William as servant in the home of John Birtles, cowkeeper, at 32 Epworth Street, Liverpool.

Son, Richard, has now moved on to 2 Ampton Street, St Pancras, London, boarding as a carpenter and joiner with John Timothy Jackson and family (maybe related, since born in Richmond, Yorkshire).
Robert has become a blacksmith's Apprentice in Arkholme. He later joined the police force and rose through the ranks in Liverpool. (Family legend has him becoming Assistant Chief Constable but we have no evidence of rank beyond inspector.)
George seems to have moved to 16 Wesley Place, Newchurch with Bacup, boarding with the Pickles Family as a Carriage Smith. Also boarding with him was William Kidd, also born in Burton. George remained single, living in New Line, Bacup, working in a livery stables. He died on 16th October 1930.

First child:
The parish record shows that James was a police officer, living in Windsor Street.
Elizabeth Ann married James Stackhouse, a greengrocer (and later, an engine driver), in 1892 at Christchurch, Lancaster. They had two children, Sarah Ellen (1893) and John Nelson Stackhouse (1898-1918).
Elizabeth Ann died, aged 38, in 1907. Her husband, James, remarried to Mary Ann Kenwright in 1913.
Second child:
The parish record shows that James was a policeman, living in Langsdale Street. There were two Langsdale Streets in Liverpool in the 1870s, either of which could have been James and Sarah's home. The more likely contender was between Shaw Street and Soho Street.
John Nelson married Esther Woodfin (1874-1961) in 1892 in Rossett. [Note: Esther is "Woodfine" in the GRO birth register.]They had seven children: Frederick James (1899 - 1950), John (Jacky) (1901), Frank (1904 - 1990), Edith Mary (1908 - 1998), Harry (1910), Arthur (1912), Nora (1916).
John died in Warrington in 1940.
Third child:
The parish record shows that James was a "manager of abbatoir company", living in 11 Great Newton Street. Sarah Ellen married Michael John McAfee (1878-1926) in 1908 at St Bedes, Toxteth.
They had two children: Ronald and Donald (1910 - 1910), Mary Joceline McAfee (1912 - 1965)
Sarah Ellen separated from her husband, who in 1921 declared on the census return that "numbers 1 & 2 (himself and Miriam Hughes) were cohabiting as man and wife, numbers 3 & 4 (Louisa Hughes and Charlotte Hughes) were daughters of Miriam Hughes and her legal husband."
Sarah Ellen took her daughter Mary Jocelyn to live in Farnham, Surrey, declaring her husband "dead" on the 1921 census. She died on 3rd March 1959 at 44 Hale Road, Farnham, Surrey.
Fourth child:
The parish record shows that James (Snr)was a clerk, living at 11 Great Newton Street.
Fifth child:
The parish record shows that James was a manager, living at 11 Great Newton Street.
[Great Newton Street is a very short distance further up Brownlow Hill from the abattoir, in Trowbridge Street, where James worked.]
William Jackson Nelson (1879 - ) married Eleanor Davies (1883-1980) in the 4th Qtr of 1905 - registered in West Derby.
They had 2 children: Elsie Eleanor Nelson (1908-1984) and William Jackson Nelson (1910-1929).

James Nelson, age 4, born Liverpool.
William Nelson, age 1, born Liverpool.
Sixth child:
The parish record shows that, at the time, James was a coal dealer, living at 10 Sandstone Road.
Agnes never married. She became a nurse. At the time of the 1911 census she was living with her uncle, Robert Nelson and family at 48 Adelaide Road, Liverpool.
Agnes became State Registered in 1923, Reg No 17397, and can be found on the Register of Nurses in the following places:
1923, 1934, 1937, 1940: 16 Nursery Lane, Garston.
1925: Rose Cottage, Burton in Lonsdale.
1943: 60 Alexandra Road, St Johns Wood, London.

Death:
James died on 16th January 1897 at 10 Sandstone Road.
On the death certificate his occupation is given as "coal carrier".
The cause of death was given as "syncope due to excessive drinking".

1901 Census:
10 Sandstone Road, West Derby.
William Nelson, age 21, born Toxteth, Liverpool.
Agnes Nelson, age 15, born West Derby, Liverpool.
Gores Directory, from 1905, lists Mrs Sarah Nelson, coal dealer, at 10 Sandstone Road.
It also lists, James Nelson, Son and Co. Ltd., butchers at 28 St Oswald Street, Old Swan. However, it seems that this is a coincidence and that this was one of a chain of shops around the city, set up by a James Nelson from Ireland.
1911 Census:
10 Sandstone Road, Stoneycroft, Liverpool.
James Nelson, son, age 34, butcher, Stanley Abbatoir, born Liverpool.
William J. Nelson, grandson, age 8, born Liverpool.
May Nelson, grand daughter, age 7, born Liverpool.
Francis Nelson, grandson, age 3, born Liverpool.
Beatrice Nelson, grand daughter, age 1, born Liverpool.
Sarah declared 6 children from her current marriage, of which 5 survived. (Her daughter Elizabeth Ann, wife of James Stackhouse, had died in 1907.)
Her son, James, claimed 5 children, all alive. He should have claimed 6 children at this date, but possibly discounted the first son, Stanley, who was at this time staying with his Swinnerton grandparents.
His wife, Harriet Louisa, is proving difficult to find on the 1911 census.
1921 Census:
Sarah's Death:
From her death certificate, she had lived at 20 Sandstone Road, widow of James Nelson, cow keeper.

1891 Census:
I am not sure where James was for the 1891 census.
There was a James Nelson aged 16, as servant to a coal dealer, Peter Robinson, just round the corner from Sandstone Road, on Green Lane. This would seem likely but is unproven.
Marriage:
James Nelson, 23 years, batchelor, married Harriet Louisa Swinnerton, 22 years, spinster.
James was described as a butcher of 8, Sandstone Road and his father James Nelson (deceased), a dairyman.
Harriet was living at the Waterworks, Green Lane, Tuebrook, and her father was George Swinnerton, Water engineer.
