Further details of Chris's direct Evans ancestors.

The following sections contain details transcribed from documents such as census, birth, marriage and death certificates, parish records, newspapers, etc.

Unless otherwise stated, we have transcribed directly from the original document or from a scanned or photographic image of the original document.

John Evans.

According to his son Robert's two marriage certificates, (from 1891 and 1901), John Evans was a stone quarryman.
On the second of these, Robert declared his father to be deceased, thus giving a date for John's death between 1891 and 1901.
John's son, Robert, was born in 1864/5, so John must have married before 1864, (even assuming Robert to be the eldest child), and so he must have been born before 1850.

Therefore, John was born well before 1850 and died between 1891 and 1901.

School Records:

30th August 1909: Margaret was admitted to Penygelly Board School, Coedpoeth.
Address: Moss Cottages, Nant. Guardian: Samuel Davies.
[Samuel Davies was husband of Annie Ellen Edwards, her older step-sister from her mother's first marriage.]
Date left: 15th December 1909. 'Left the district.'
It would seem that Margaret then spent a year in Brymbo but we have not found a record of her admission to school there.

24th April 1911: Admission to Penygelly Board School, Coedpoeth.
Address: 12 Nant Square, Coedpoeth.
Parent: Robert Evans.
Last School: Brymbo NP School.
Date Left: 23rd May 1913, 'Transferred to senior dept.'

17th February 1914: Temporary admission to Old Colwyn.
Listed as Evans, Maggie Alice.
Guardian: Mrs Theophilus Jones, Aled House, Old Colwyn.
Last School: Coedpoeth C.
The reason for her stay in Old Colwyn and her relationship with Mrs Jones is unclear as yet. Theophilus Jones was a joiner and a partner in 'Jones & Morris', a small building company in Old Colwyn. His wife, Margaret Ann Evans, was born in Denbigh and her father was Robert Jones, a coachman from Caernarvon. So, the link between Margaret Alice Evans and Mrs Jones lies here somewhere but we have still to work it out.

Father, Robert's, death:

Robert Evans was buried in Coedpoeth cemetery on 18th December 1916, aged 51 years.
