Hare Place no longer exists but used to be on the east side of Scotland Road,
roughly at the junction of the modern Leeds Street.
William Cave was a 'cowkeeper' - in otherwords an urban dairyman.
He died during the early 1880s as this advertisement in the Liverpool Mercury, 20th February 1884 will attest:
To be Let as a going concern, an old established MILKHOUSE, situated 2 Hare Place, Scotland Road, Liverpool. Been in present occupier's possession for 28 years,
and is now doing a good business. Shippon has accommodation for 15 cows and one horse. Present stock 12 cows and one horse, cart, shandry and all necessary utensils.
Bereavement in family is sole reason for giving up.- Apply to Mrs Ellen Cave, 2, Hare Place, Scotland Road; or to Charles Smith, 247, Scotland Road, Liverpool.
