James Hand and Mary Hand.
They were born in Ireland at the end of the 18th century. The 1851 census suggests that James was born in 1798, Mary in 1796. Mary's burial record suggests a birth date of 1793.
James and Mary had at least one son, Bernard, who was born in Ireland about 1834/5.
At Bernard's wedding on 3rd September 1855 in Liverpool, Bernard described his father as a labourer.
We suspect that the Hand family had settled in Manchester in the late 1830s on arrival from Ireland. It is likely that their son Bernard met his future wife, Margaret, here.
We believe this to be James and Mary in 1851:
