Further details of Dave's direct Nixon ancestors

The following sections contain details transcribed from documents such as census, birth, marriage and death certificates, parish records, newspapers, etc.

Unless otherwise stated, we have transcribed directly from the original document or from a scanned or photographic image of the original document.

Robert Nixon (late 18th century)

This Robert Nixon is the earliest member of the Nixon family I have identified.
He was probably born about 1780 but that's just a guess based on his marriage in 1799.
I have little information about him, apart from his marriage and mentions at his children's baptisms.

Robert's Marriage.
25th July 1799 Parochial Chapel of St Nicholas, Liverpool.

Robert Nixon, mariner, of the parish, married Margaret Helor, minor, also of the parish.
They were married by licence. Margaret's mother, Susannah, swore an oath that she was indeed Margaret's mother and that she consented to the marriage.
Witnesses were Elizabeth Roscoe and Constantine McGowan.
Margaret Helor's mother was Susannah, (maiden name unknown). I have not discovered Susannah's first marriage details yet.
As a widow, Susannah married for a second time, by license, to Robert Smith, mariner on 1st March 1804 at St Nicholas, Liverpool.
Witnesses were Howard Smith and John McNally.

On the register, his parents are described as Robert Nixon, mariner, of Norfolk Street and Margaret Healer, his wife.

Robert Nixon
was born on 9th February 1804 and baptised on 21st March 1804 at St Peter's, Liverpool.
On the register, his parents are described as Robert Nixon, mariner, of Simpson Street (which crosses Norfolk Street) and Margaret Nixon, formerly Hulor (could be Haler).

William Nixon
was born on 17th February 1806 and baptised at St Nicholas parish church on 4th May 1806.
On the register, his parents are described as Robert Nixon, rigger, of Simpson Street (which crosses Norfolk Street) and Margaret Haylor, his wife.
