Chris's Ancestors - Parry Family

The Shakespeare Connection

There is a very tenuous link between Chris's family and William Shakespeare.

Chris's direct ancestor, Edmund Wheate (d. 1637), had a brother, William Wheate (d. 1616), who married Anne Bayley (née Quiney), on 6th February 1591 at St Mary Lichfield. (Anne was widow of Richard Bailey who she had married in 1586 - transcribed as Anne Queeny and Richard Bayles from the register at Stratford.),

Anne's brother, Richard Quiney (~1557 - 1602) was High Bailiff of Stratford in 1601 and also a friend of William Shakespeare.

Richard Quiney's son, Thomas Quiney (1589 - 1662), married William Shakespeare and Ann Hathaway's daughter, Judith Shakespeare (1585 - 1661), on 10th February 1615/16. (Transcribed as Tho. Queeny and Judith Shakspere from the register at Stratford.

Thomas and Judith lived in the house at 1, High Street, (the corner of Bridge Street and High Street) in Stratford, where Thomas sold wine and tobacco. Their house is still there and, until recently, was the premises of Crabtree and Evelyn.
