Mary's Death
Garston

I now believe that Mary died in 1868.
She was buried at St Michael, Garston on 4th March 1868.
Her address was given simply as Garston.

1871 census

I have not managed to find Richard on the 1871 census.

Burial

Richard Webb died in 1880 at Raglan Street. He was buried on 16th June 1880, aged 73, at St Michael, Garston

The Jones Family

Anne Webb, Richard and Mary's daughter, had married William Jones on 13th December 1857 on the same occasion as her sister Sarah Webb married Thomas Abbott
This was at St Nicholas, Liverpool, and each couple acted as witnesses for the other's marriage.
Anne, spinster, of full age, gave her address as Park Lane and her father as Richard Webb, labourer
William Jones, batchelor, of full age, labourer, gave his address as Norfolk Street and his father as Thomas Jones, Stone cutter

Their first child, Sarah Anne, was baptised at St Michael, Garston on 7th February 1858, but sadly, she died aged 4 and was buried at St Michaels on 30th October 1862

I have not identified the couple on the 1861 census, but on the 1871 census they lived in Chapel Road, Garston:

William Jones age 36, labourer, born Cheshire, Bebington
Anne Jones (wife) age 35, born Garston
Mary Jones (daughter) age 11, born Bootle
Jane Jones (daughter) age 8, born Garston
Richard Jones (son) age 4, born Garston

1851 census
I believe this to be Sarah living as the niece of Henry Whittle and his wife, Sarah, in Garston Village.

Henry Whittle age 36, Dock Lab, born Rufford
Sarah Whittle - see below - age 50, born Garston
Ann Ellis (stepdaughter) age 19, servant, born Garston
John Ellis (stepson) age 17, servant, born Garston
Sarah Webb (niece ) age 13, servant, born Garston
Peter Rice (lodger), age 28, dock lab, born Wales
Samuel Green (lodger) age 26, dock lab, born Oxford
David Lawson?? (Laurie, Lawsey??) (lodger) age 26, dock lab, born Oxford
Thomas Baxendale (lodger) age 18, dock lab, born Toxteth Park
Simon Lumpson?? (lodger) age 25, dock lab, born Woolton

Sarah Whittle, (previously Scarisbrick, Ellis), née Webb (1800 - )
Sarah Whittle was born in 1800 as Sarah Webb, daughter of Samuel Webb and Ann Yarwood, therefore sister of Richard Webb, thus making her 'young' Sarah Webb's aunt as implied on this 1851 census record.
She first married Thomas Ellis in Childwall on 14th July 1823 and produced four (known) children, Catherine (1824), Anne (1832), Samuel (1828), John (1834), all baptised at St Michael, Garston.
Sadly, Thomas Ellis died and was buried in Garston on 17th June 1835. Sarah was remarried, to Joseph Scarisbrick, on 7th June 1836 at St Peters, Liverpool.
Joseph Scarisbrick was publican of the Blackhorse in Garston. He and Sarah are found on the 1841 census, together with her father, Samuel and her children Catherine, Anne and John.
Widowed again, she married Henry Whittle, labourer, of Norfolk Street, son of Richard Whittle, labourer, on 14th April 1846 at St Nicholas, Liverpool. From the marriage register we learn that her father was Samuel Webb, labourer.
Henry died in August 1857, and was buried in Toxteth aged 39, a labourer from Grafton Street.
Following Henry's death, Mary applied for parish relief in Toxteth Park but was told to go back to Garston. (Liverpool Mercury 20 May 1858)
By 1861 she was staying in Speke Road, Garston, with her son, John Ellis and his wife Mary and their 9 month old son, Thomas.
By 1871 she was with her sister, Mary and husband, Robert Hornby, in Quarry Street, Much Woolton. She was still there in 1881.

Sarah Webb's marriage (from certificate)

Link to St Nicholas, Liverpool at nls.uk
Link to St Nicholas at Old-Maps.co.uk
Google map showing St Nicholas Church, Liverpool
Sarah married Thomas Abbott on 13th December 1857 at St Nicholas Church, Liverpool.
Thomas is described on the marriage certificate as a labourer from Hardy Street, son of Edward Abbott, labourer.
Sarah lived in Gt George Square and was daughter of Richard Webb, labourer.
Witnesses were William Jones and ?? Jones (Most likely Ann, Sarah's sister, wife of William Jones)
Link to Hardy Street and Gt George Square at nls.uk
Link to Hardy Street and Gt George Square at Old-Maps.co.uk
Google map showing Hardy Street and Gt George Square, Liverpool
Gt George Square was one of Liverpool's finest squares, and Hardy Street effectively forms one side of the square. It is most likely that she and Thomas were both living in lodgings in order to qualify as living in the parish of St Nicholas. They were possibly in the same lodging house or hotel, both quoting the address slightly differently to avoid suspicion of co-habiting.
