On the 1851 census, Edward claims to have been born in Guilsfield and on the 1861 census that he was born in Meivod.
These two villages are separated by no more than 5 miles, with the hill and woods of Broniarth roughly midway.

We have, so far, found two possible contenders for Edward's baptism, both in Meivod, Montgomery.
2nd May 1794 to parents Edward and Margaret of Broniarth,
or,
23rd July 1797 to parents Richard and Elizabeth, of Meivod.
The first seems more likely on the grounds that forenames often run in families, and no Richards appear in 'our' Edward's offspring. He does name one of his sons Edward.
